CD-CP Child Development Fellowships for Police SupervisorsPolice officers need the tools to recognize and respond to a child's psychological injury. The Child Development Fellowships provide police supervisors with the special expertise to lead their teams of community-based officers in crime prevention, early interventions, and relationship-building activities that involve children, families and community agencies in their respective neighborhoods. Child Development Fellows participate in a wide range of activities that familiarize them with child development concepts, patterns of psychological disturbance, methods of clinical intervention and settings for treatment and care. In exchange, police supervisors share their knowledge about police practice with their mental health colleagues. A major goal of the fellowship is to foster working relationships between the Child Development Fellows and the child mental health professionals with whom they will collaborate in the community.
