CD-CP Replication Sites : Framingham, MAMain ContactJack Hagenbuch Participating AgenciesWebsiteProgram GoalWhen children witness a traumatic event, the Framingham CD-CP program is available to respond, providing crisis intervention, brief counseling and referral to treatment. Program OverviewPatrol officers and supervisors on duty identify the majority of Framingham CD-CP cases; other cases are identified at Dispatch when a child is in crisis, or through a weekly review of police reports. At times an officer will approach the staff member at the station with a request for service. In addition, a small number of cases are referred to CD-CP in the course of clinician ride-alongs with police officers. The Framingham CD-CP provides services to children exposed to:
When a case is referred to the CD-CP clinician, the clinician determines the appropriate response--acute, non-acute or consultation with officer--and begins intervention accordingly. The Framingham CD/CP provides services to both victims and perpetrators. Clinicians, accompanied by police officers when necessary, offer up to three home-based crisis intervention sessions. If treatment is indicated, a referral is made to the local mental health clinic in the area. Many referrals come to the Wayside Youth & Family Out Patient Clinic for services. In 2003, a new Jail Diversion Program began stationing mental health clinicians at the Framingham Police Station 40 hours a week to provide mental health services as an alternative to arrest where appropriate. Commitments are handled more judiciously and money is save by conducting evaluations at the police station rather than the Emergency Room. The child component of the Jail Diversion Program is handled by the CD/CP clinician. The Framingham CD-CP conducts periodic case consultation with referring officers and now is having case conferences in conjunction with the Jail Diversion Program. Training and consultation are offered as necessary. Staff
