CD-CP Seminar on Child Development, Human Functioning and Policing StrategiesThis seminar is designed for rank-and-file police officers and related professionals. Typically, the police officer has the most immediate and frequent contact with children and families exposed to violence. Together, a police supervisor and a mental health clinician run the child development seminar for police officers, providing them with the knowledge and confidence to apply a child-focused approach in their day-to-day contact with victims of violence. Exposure to developmental principles makes officers aware of the influence that their own actions can have on the emotional development of children. The seminar also expands the clinician's understanding of the children with whom they work and the role that legal authority plays by introducing them to police perspectives on children, families, violence and crime.
