Childhood Violent Trauma Center (CVTC)

Through the auspices of the Childhood Violent Trauma Center, a SAMSHA-funded National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) initiative, Yale Child Study Center runs a trauma-focused clinic to evaluate and treat children and families who have been exposed to a violent, criminal or other potentially traumatic event and are referred through the Child Development Community Policing Program (CD-CP) in New Haven, CT.

All children and primary caretakers are offered access to clinical assessment and treatment through the Trauma Center, and/or referral to another Child Study Center program or local service agency. Families may also participate in a research project designed to contribute to the descriptive analysis of symptom course and psychosocial functioning in the populations served by the Trauma Center. Research assessments take place at the following time points:

  • Acute Peritraumatic follow up (1-14 days of the event),
  • Acute posttraumatic (30-45 days)
  • Posttraumatic follow up (Six months and one year after the event.)
