Project Purpose:
The Safe Start project establishes a community planning process to address
children's exposure to violence in Spokane, Washington. The purpose of
the planning process is to develop a continuum of care plan for the community
that integrates social services, criminal justice, and prevention efforts.
Family risks to be addressed include children in Spokane County who are
exposed to:
- Child abuse
- Neglect
- Criminal behavior in parents
- Domestic violence
Based on identified
areas of critical need in Spokane, all tasks will be organized to address:
- Increased communication across agencies
- Improved identification and referral of at-risk families
- The integration of services based on individualized care principles
Strategic Planning work groups will be organized around goals defining
the overall Spokane Safe Start Initiative. The work groups will be integrated
through a Coordinating Committee.
