Project Purpose:

The Pueblo of Zuni Safe Start Demonstration Initiative will develop a multi-disciplinary approach that will identify and provide prevention and intervention services to children ages 0-6 and their families residing within the tribal community who have experienced violence or been exposed to violent environments. The goals of the program during the planning phase include:

  • Identify at-risk population and eligibility for services
  • Develop appropriate collaborative protocols and agreements among tribal and community agencies
  • Develop a five-year strategic plan that addresses the scope of the problem, identifies resources, and outlines collaborative community planning and services to address the problems; develop goals and objectives for prevention and reduction of impacts of violence
  • Conduct a community assessment to document risk factors, resources, strengths, and barriers to services
  • Develop plans for evaluating and measuring progress as well as for training and technical assistance

The Pueblo will develop and implement a coordinated planning process to address the needs of the service population and develop a full range of multi-disciplinary prevention, intervention, and treatment services utilizing community-based resources.
