NCCEV Press ReleasesFor immediate release: October 15, 2004National Center for Children Exposed to Violence to provide training to Guilford, CT.
New Haven, CT-The National Center for Children Exposed to Violence (NCCEV), at the Yale Child Study Center, in collaboration with the New Haven Department of Police Service, will host representatives from Guilford Youth and Family Services and the Guilford Police Department at the Yale Child Study Center, 230 South Frontage Road, Wednesday, October 13th through Friday, October 15th, 2004. Law enforcement and social services representatives from Guilford will participate in a range of activities that will familiarize them with the concepts, methods and practices of the CD-CP Program, including understanding patterns of psychological disturbances in children and the clinical interventions and police practices used to treat children who have been exposed to violence in their homes, schools and communities. A goal of the training is to foster a working relationship among participants who’ve joined the Guilford CD-CP Program since its initial training in Jun 1997. The CD-CP Program was established in 1991 and formed the basis of the NCCEV, which was established in 1999. The program is under the direction of Dr. Steven Marans, the Harris Associate Professor of Child Psychoanalysis and Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center. The goals of the NCCEV are to raise public awareness about the effects on children’s exposure to violence; provide training and technical assistance in the CD-CP Program model to communities nationwide; and, to serve as a national resource center for professionals and the public on children’s exposure to violence. A cornerstone of the CD-CP Program is the 24/7 acute response consultation service, which joins mental health professionals with law enforcement officials who provide emergency clinical services to children and families at the scene. Follow-up services are provided at the family’s request. Dr. James Lewis, III, Operations Coordinator for the NCCEV and Retired Sgt. Anthony Griego, from the New Haven Department of Police Service, will lead the October 13-15 training. This training is available only to participants in the Guildford CD-CP Program.
