National Center for Children Exposed to Violence Dedication Ceremony Inaugural Event Features Keynote Address by U.S. Deputy Attorney General Eric H. Holder

NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT -- The dedication and inaugural ceremony for the National Center for Children Exposed to Violence will be held on Monday, May 8, noon at the Yale University School of Medicine in the Harkness Auditorium. The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., U.S. Deputy Attorney General, will give the keynote address on "Breaking the Cycle of Violence: The Children Exposed to Violence Initiative."

The National Center for Children Exposed to Violence (NCCEV) has been established by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Program at the Yale Child Study Center. The NCCEV is founded on the work of the Child Development Community Policing Program, a unique police-mental health partnership created in New Haven under the direction of Dr. Steven Marans of the Yale Child Study Center.

The National Center for Children Exposed to Violence has the mission of promoting public and professional awareness of the effects of violence on children and providing training and technical assistance to communities nationwide who are developing collaborative efforts to respond to children and families exposed to violence. The NCCEV will also serve as a national clearinghouse and resource for information about violent traumatization and successful approaches to intervention.
